Don’t Miss Oregon’s Astoria Sunday Market!

When your stay at Clementine’s Bed and Breakfast includes a Sunday in summer or autumn, be sure to plan a visit to Astoria’s Sunday Market. Unlike the many Saturday farmers’ and artisans’ markets, Astoria’s popular gathering place opens on Sundays only from 10 am to 3 pm. The second Sunday in May until the second Sunday in October, you’ll find thousands of locals and visitors alike strolling the four blocks in the historic downtown district.

Sunday Market features up to 200 vendors of products that have been grown, gathered, or created by local farmers and artisans. You’re likely to find birdhouses to blown glass, ceramics to a craft distillery, flowers to furniture, seasonal plants, produce, and more! You can be assured that vendors’ offerings have been reviewed by the Market for quality and authenticity.

Even though you breakfasted in style at the B&B, the live music and choices from soup (salmon chowder) to nuts (roasted) in the Market’s food court will beckon you by afternoon. Linger at a picnic table while your feet tap to the sounds of ‘fresh locally-grown artists’ playing original music. You may hear anything from bluegrass to Celtic folk to jazz. Sunday Market’s website lists performers featured each Sunday.

Remember, after your Sunday morning breakfast feast of fresh juice, seasonal fruit compote, homemade sweets, and a main dish that might be Judith’s Blintz Soufflé with Blueberry Sauce or Dungeness Crab Eggs Benedict with Asparagus, you’ll be ready for a little exercise. The five block walk to the Market and wandering through the many stalls is a perfect option for both shopping and entertainment. So when you make your plans for a weekend getaway in Astoria, your stay doesn’t have to end with your Sunday breakfast!
